Hey guys --

Just ordered 27 cubic yards of grade 9 crushed limestone for a raised paver patio and it ended up being $1000 delivered. This is the first time I ordered this material but it seemed expensive to me. I would like to hear what your usual prices are (per cubic yard or ton) for this material.

27 cubic yards, depending on moisture content, would be roughly 30-33 ton. 33 ton from my more expensive (but reliable) supplier, delivered to site, would be about $230. But I also order 1-2 thousand tons every year, and as a homeowner you can't expect to see those kinds of prices.

Moving to the homeowner forum.

I'm sure the cost is going to vary by location. In southeast Michigan we use 21AA limestone, which has stone up to 3/4 of an inch and weighs about 2500 lbs per yards. Retail, it runs about $22.50 per ton.

So you are looking at about 34 tons at $22.50 which would come to about $765. Then you're looking at a delivery charge of anywhere from $40 to $100 per load. Is your landscape supply center nearby? Did your limestone come in one 27 yarad load? If you live in the sticks and it came in 3 9 yard loads, there's a grand right there.

WE pay about half that, the West Coast price factor is why. From a garden center, it is double.. So, my first question is, where did you purchase it from? If from a garden center, they have it delivered from the same places we buy wholesale from, dump it in a bin, then reload it and truck it off to wherever.

So, double the price at least.

EGADS! Buy from a quarry, the cost for the stone itself is usually about $5-fiddy a ton, double that for trucking.

My cost is $13.50/ton picked up, $22/ton delivered.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I did, in fact buy from a local landscaping center. I called a few and got similar pricing. I also tried to go through ServiceMagic but ended up with no leads.

Basically, it ended up being $475 per load delivered, and I needed 2 loads. So, looks like I probably spent more than I needed to, but that is all part of the retail game.

Also, for the order I placed, no stone will actually come from the garden center. It is coming delivered directly by the quarry/trucking company.
