I have a pesticide license but haven't been able to figure this out.
If I use Merit (Imidicloprid) granular systemic insecticide on roses to deter sucking/chewing insects and Japanese beetles, will it poison the bees?

Bayer of course says no link what so ever...
The beekeepers think otherwise..
Here are few links that I found...

:woot: Thats a tough ? Contact or ingestion?experts still dont know all the answers. Imidicloprid is under a alot of heat here in N.Y. Target organism not deterant is the law here. Try a organic remedy. grinding up some Japanese Beetles and some marigolds can produce a very strong Pyrethrin. Best answer on this ? always think IPM(intergrated pest managment) tough call when Bees are involved.

Ha! I can't really set up shop to grind Jap Beetles for my company's clients.
Also Pyrethrim is a deadly poison, especially to pets.
My use for Merit has always been for grub control in turf
But as you intend to use.....
"If I use Merit (Imidicloprid) granular systemic insecticide on roses to deter sucking/chewing insects and Japanese beetles, will it poison the bees?"
My thinking is a systemic brought into the plant via root system and distributed through the plant.......then at what point in the plant of a rose does the Merit stop? Does it go all the way through to pollen/nectar?
Personaly......I am kinda doubting it will.
