Another woodworking question

I have a questions about how to attach sections of fence or arbor when the posts are not perpendicular. Not sure how to explain this very well, so I drew a quick pic:

The first is better looking the second is stronger.

Thanks! Hey, for the top 2 options can you show me where you'd place screws to attach the pieces together. I hate to sound like a nob, but.... :blush:

Funny you should ask that. When I first posted the pic it had the fasteners drawn in but it seemed to hide the joinery so I edited them out. The conversion from dwg to gif seems to cost some line quality.

Anyway here are some fasteners added in.
