I want to put pavers on a patio behind my retaining wall. It is 3 1/2 feet high. I have no clay fill to tamp behind the wall to build a earth base before I put down the road crush ect. I was wondering if I could just fill the back of the retaining wall with all road crush and compact to build a stable enough base or will I need to fill with dirt (what type) first up to a certian level and the use the road crush. This area is the height of the wall about 15 feet long and 4 feet deep. Thanks in advance

Sorbate - the method you want to employ is the best one you can employ - using soils as backfill is just asking for problems. But using crushed stone, well compactred in lifts, is your best bet for a durable, long-lasting project.

Thanks guys, that is what I thought, but no one here had a clue. I don't mind using road crush, it is a lot easier to pack

Don't forget to include a pipe for drainage...

Of coarse. that is the first thing I will do plus gravel and then landscape fabric so nothing washes between my wall

It sounds like you've got it well under control! Keep up the good work and don't forget to post some pictures.

For sure, it going to look like better homes and gardens when I'm done. I think it is going to take about two years. I'm hand shoveling everything, can't get equipment in the back yard.

I'm in no hurry. I don't need help. If it looks like crap I'll redo it. This is my hobby. I needed something to occupy my off thime other then drinking.

I thought you were supposed to drink while engaging in a hobby!
