When do you need to switch from 4x4's to 6x6's?

Also, if building a landing between 2 runs of stairs, should you use 4 posts or 2?

I switch to 6 x 6 at about 6'. I'm sure you could go much higher before it was required but 6 x 6 just looks nicer.

I'd probably use 4 posts under the landing.

I like to plan ahead before framing begins....It is important to try to make the deck look uniform.If there is a Handrail involved,Try utilizing you support for the landing with the post of the handrail..I am building a 14x30 deck with a landing and 2 sets of stairs on either side...I have it laid out so my handrail post will be used as the supports and the railing......You just need to notch around the joist and lag to it.....Ill send a pic when completed to share with You All........CYA
