I'm new to redoing things, so I have a question... I am wanting to redo a concrete porch with flagstone, has anyone got any suggestions on how to do this? Do you just put a layer of concrete over the exsisting concrete porch and lay the flagstone on it or what? Thanks

Welcome Bev! I'm also in Virginia.
There are a couple of things to consider first.
Is the existing concrete in good condition? (Any spalling or cracks)
Is there enough room for the flagstone to top the existing porch and still have a stepdown from the door threshold?
Are there steps up to the porch that also need to be veneered with flagstone?

If everything is fine, then the mason will put down a layer of semi-moist mortar/sand mix and then use wet mortar to install the stones. The joints will be pointed up after the first mortar has set. Usually after the work is done, we acid wash and clean up any excess mortar. Hope that helps.

Thanks ! This porch has been covered with outdoor carpet for several years, I'm not sure how it was "glued" down. It's my mom's porch and we are hoping we can do this job next spring or summer. There will be enough room for the flagstone and theres no steps to the porch, it goes from the carport to the porch. Where in VA are you located? Thanks Again!! :D
