I have the opportunity to create a sundial carpet bed next spring. I have had very little experience doing carpet beds and am having trouble finding information about them. Anyone have any experience with these or know of some good information resources?

Can you tell me more about this?

I have in my mind a picture of a huge bed of densely planted flowers with a large arm sticking above the ground casting a shadow on the bed. Is that what you have in mind?

Exactly what I have in mind. I know what varieties are used as planting material, but i don't know what spacing to use or the best way to lay out the design. I also am looking for some input as to how much time will be needed to maintain a bed like this. It is a very high maintenance item that needs regular trimming and cleanup. How much and how often I am not yet sure of. After thinking about it I would lay out the design as if using lockstone. Tomorrows I am going to measure up the bed and do some doodling on paper. This project excites me because it is a new challenge for me.:D

The friendly folks at NASA will provide the data you require, I believe....
