I have a client who has a large stream running through her property. Unfortunately she gets skunk cabbage like crazy and she wants it gone. Weedwacking had little effect as they were back in days.
Can roundup be used near the stream? Is there another alternative?

Of course not knowing NJ laws but Rodeo is an aquatic herbicide with no water restrictions I believe it is just glyphosate labeled for water
Keep in mind that this would be a wetland and almost certainly protected by state and local law. you would most likely need to file for permission from the local conservation commission.

I guess I will call the EPA and find out my options. Its a 400 foot frontage area about 20 some feet deep. Gets expensive running a weedwacker through there.

It would be expensive to do it, but would solve the problem. Dig it out. Skunk cabbage is a native here and I find it growing a lot in any consistently wet shady spot. I have fought the weed wacker battle and consistently got my butt beat. Not to mention I smell awful the rest of the day.
Most herbicides aren't too picky about what they kill, even those rated for water use and you may end up killing a lot more than the skunk cabbage unintentionally.
I would just dig it up, it is not difficult, just time consuming. Or try craigslist, there are a lot of people that like to harvest native plants for restoration landscaping and may come dig at least some of it up for you.

Aqua Neat is a glyphosate product that is designed to be used in aquatic settings, including golf courses, lakes, ponds, etc.
