Plate Compactor?

Firstly, thanks very much for making this information available to the average DIYer!


I have a paver project which includes both walkways and a patio, no driveway. I am able to freely use a Wacker 1135A plate compactor for the project. The 1135A has a centrifugal force of 2,470 lbs.

My concern is with the amount of compaction force. Time is not main really an issue for me.

Question: If I compact in smaller lifts and make more passes can I achieve the same level of compaction that a Wacker 1500 series model could provide?

You will have to perform lifts of no more then 1-2", and I would recomend that you wet the lift down until damp before you perform the compaction run. If you do that, you should have no problem with the compaction using that small of a plate.
