For awhile now I've wanted to have a different kind of space on GTX - a place to write about some of the things I'm seeing in the industry, whether it be through contact with current, prospective or former advertisers, members from the U.S, Canada, Australia and Europe, people outside the industry or even things I've discovered on the web while doing research.
Also, over the 5+ years this forum has been on the web, I've learned quite a bit about how to run my business better from some of the really great members here. I owe a lot to them. And during that time I've discovered that there tend to be some common threads for both those that succeed in the landscape industry and those that struggle.
The forum is great, but it's designed more to be about posing a question and getting many answers to help hash out a solution. Writing posts or articles that don't start with a question don't seem like they belong in the public parts of the forum. Plus, I wanted to have a spot where I could chronicle some of the day-to-day things I do over the course of a season, things I struggle with, that it might help those who are also struggling to maybe find a way through those issues.
So to give myself that space, today I officially launched The Dirt (http://www.groundtradesxchange.com/landscape_blog/). Stop over and have a look when you get a free minute. I'm not a millionaire and I don't have everything figured out, but I started in the industry in '85, been running my business since '97, and have met countless really smart people through this great site since '03. I think that puts me in a unique position to share some information that I hope some will find useful.
And by the way - keep your eyes peeled for one or two other new attractions coming to GTX.
