Stonehenge recently mentioned to me that Uni-Lok is or did already discontinue making their "twinkie" sized paver. In your opinions, how important was this piece? Reason for asking is, we (County Materials Corp.) are working on new products and I am pushing hard to make this small piece, but not getting to far with it. We have a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 and a 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 pave product (like the Uni-Lok Brussels) we are making. I think we should also have a 2 3/4 x 5 1/2 piece. What are your thoughts on such a thing? Thank you in advance.

I think it allows for a more cobbled look, and it makes me think less when laying it out, which is always good. Saves time. So my vote is yes.

Discontinue the twinkie! They add variety to the cobblestone look and you always need them. That is a stupid move to stop making them.

The only twinkie that I am aware that UNILOCK has discontinued is the Brussels 1/4 stone. Brussels XL has been added to the line-up (double the whole stone size). I personally won't miss it except it made a nice accent stone in soldier borders. The quarter's were likely discontinued because of handling difficulties.
Here's a picture with the XL's instead of the 1/4's.

God I love those and a diet RC on the way home from work ...
Not a big unilock guy but I thought you could only buy those as part of a bundle. I like the soldier course look but if they are only part of a bundle it must be tuff to have just the right amount.

I like the Twinkie. Its part in the the multi-piece style is the ability to create a true random pattern.
Installers (use the term loosely here), probably complained about either always running short of the Twinkie or just not using them at all.
Cast my vote as a yes for the Twinkie.
Peace,
Rex

Here on the east coast, what we call the "twinkie" is part of the "Olde Greenwich Cobble" selection. Without it, some patterns would have to be discontinued. I just bought some last week, they are part of the bundle of squares.
The patterns that use the twinkie are time consuming, I wouldn't be sorry to see them go.

Pelican - When I lived just north of Detroit, for the 6 years I did landscaping work there, all I ever did was OGC or derivatives thereof. That was 12 or so years ago.
Would you believe that Unilock and the patterns made possible by pavers like OGC and Classico are just now becoming popular here?
Long live the Twinkie!!
Just did some OGC with a Twinkie pattern. Hey, if you run out just cut some squares in half LOL! I like the twinkie but their patterns are time consuming. In Brussels I think it gets lost. Don't need it there as the focus is on the stone and not the pattern.

Digin - Jimmenicrickets!! You must have to use two hands to lay those XL's!!

You better believe it. They sure go down a lot quicker than the goofy 1/4's.
I don't think Unilock has any plans to discontinue twinkies in the OVP, OGC, Cortina or Classico lines. The 1/4's came bundled alone in fairly small bundles and could not be purchased by section. I suspect because they were almost sqaure but not quite it made packaging difficult and therefore costly. They were also difficult to handle with the clamp trucks. I'm sure they got plenty of complains from delivery drivers.
I'm curious if everybody has called the small pieces in OVP OGC and classico 'twinkies' before this thread? It's the name I have known them by up here forever.

I remember people talking about 'twinkies' at the unilock seminar I went to five years ago when I wanted to check the paver thing out. It just seems so darn appropriate!

I just learned of that name recently - always called the twinkie from OGC/Classico a half square. Never really had a name for the Brussels twinkie.
My crews have been calling them twinkes for more years than I like to remember. I vote to keep them.

When I install multiple paver sizes, such as the job of the week. I number the sizes from one to five, small to big, as a way of telling the guys what I need. I always love the five's because they go fast.

Always known them as twinkies. Working the job we would call for twinkies, buns or loaves.

I just assumed this thread was about OGC. In this area we call the quarter stones just that.

Boy, if you guys weigh more than you'd like, I think I see one of the reasons why!
At least you don't call them twinkies, burgers and subs.
