agla asked for it- what we did to prep for bluestone pool coping.
1. Set up a sprinkler around the outside edge of the pool all day for 2 days. Those pool guys do a terrible job of backfilling. and the water caused the soil to settle. It would be nice to hit something like that with a jumping jack, but it would crack the pluming.
2. Dry fit all coping and make adjustments as necessary.
3. Turn all coping upside down and score with cutoff saw 1/4" deep in aXXXX pattern. Helps the mortar grab.
4. Cleaned top of pool wall with water.
5. Used laser to carefully set level, square, straight lines for coping.
5. Mixed up mortar with K88 to increase bonding capacity.
6. Laid all coping saving the corners for last. We had left these long in case of any discrepancy.
I was surprised at how good it came out. I thought we would make a blunder somewhere, but not that time. Anyone see anything we missed. I hope so, I'm here to learn.

Sorry, no experience with vinyl pools. K88 a liquid available at mason suppliers. You mix it in when mixing mortar. It makes mortar more gluelike among other things.
