We're about to plant 1000 semi-mature pachysandra over a 1000 sq ft hill in front of our house which is about 45 degrees down. I'll first lay down a few inches of top soil (over the sand, dirt, pine needle, mulch mix) but does anyone think laying jute netting over the hill is completely necessary? The netting will cost about as much as the pachysandra itself and if I can find cheaper alternative to help these things take root .

thanks for any advice

45 degrees is pretty steep.

Do you think mulch would stay on that slope?

1 plant per square foot? I'd go with the net. I'd also add some compost to the soil mix.

Thanks. Yes, I think mulch will stay on it. And I can order a net for like $140. 4.5' X 225'. Sound like a decent deal?
