I read that a good bounce rate for a services website (such as landscaping) would be around 30%. Mine seems a little high (40%). (Of course, I'm near a rather large concentration of state workers..Might just be bored shoppers killing time at work.)

Has anybody had any luck in lowering their bounce rate noticably?..One suggestion I read was to have the landing pages tailored to each keyword...Makes sense..If you punch in "patios", you probably want to open to a page showing a variety of patios...not pretty flowers.

John, I think I'm going to answer this later in The Cabin.

my bounce rate is high right now. From traffic that I cant figure out where they are coming from. If it was just from direct, organic, and ppc, then I would probably be somewhere around 30%.

john,

my bounce rate has been going down ever so slightly. it's historically been around 40% but is closer to 30% now.

i assume you are using google analytics? they also have something called google website optimizer that let's you test different versions of a web page. then you can see what impact your changes have on bounce rate, time on site, etc.
