Ok so we've been asked to do this weird little project. The homeowner wants us to build a 16inch raised patio. But in the middle its not be pavers but cedar decking. This isn't a problem we would just build it like a free standing wall but, we have to put a 15ft step (entire length of one side) in it and theres no material to support the second step. (where it is we cant put material in) Any ideas, we only use Permacon :bangin:

I'm not sure I even understand what the client is asking for. Will you be putting decking right over a seat wall along the perimeter of this patio? Just sounds like a deck to me, but once that's sitting on a retaining wall.

put the steps in front of the wall.

Yep its is a deck in the center it will look like the deck is being supported by the wall i guess? Ya thats kinda what I was thinking just basically build two walls possibly. The only problem is that the copping over hangs at the rear and will create a void in between the two walls, which isn't the end of the world i guess

So this is a span of cedar decking that is unsupported in the middle?

Why not build the cedar deck and do a skirt out of whatever wall system you want to use? If I'm following this correctly.
