I work on waterfall and pond jobs often. I like to use large boulders, sometimes mossy boulders. How do you get them off the truck to the site and in the waterfall itself. I've tried renting an excavator with a powerful arm to pick and place. What do you do? , do you do the same with large walls?:const:

Paul should have some input with this - he's moving large stones all the time. I believe he slings them.

Slinging them is a good way but what if the stone is too large for a good grip with the sling? And too how do you get them to where the excavator is positioned?

Boulders? like in Granite stuff or flat stone like outcropping or snapped stone?

We use lots of different lifting devices. I have a sling that was made for lifting root balls for boulders, I think Western Bag and Burlap supplied us with that. For outcropping and flat stone we use forks on our skid steer for the easy stuff. Now for lifting them and setting them on steep slopes I use wire lifting cables, these get expensive and need to be checked often because of sharp edges the stone has.

Equipment, we use Mini-xcavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, cranes or what every is needed to do the job, Oh I almost forgot, get yourself some real good pry bars and a few 3" pipes, you can move the world with a 6' pry bar and 3 or 4 3" dia pipes.

Boulders too large for slings? You just haven't gotten them made big enough for you. Talk to a crane company thay can give you their supplier for liftingstraps, wire cable and heavy duty slinging equipment. Remember anything can be made for what you want them to do. They seem to get all that iron up on those skyscrapers :cigar:

Thank's for all of the great advice. I'll keep it in mind for that next big job.
Thanks
