everything, we've never done any water features so it should be a fun project for us. Our biggest concern is having it hold water and filtering the water with the proper plants

Hmm. It's kinda like someone saying - "tell me about building houses." Where do you start?

The basics include digging a big hole and filling it with water. :woot:

After that it can get complicated. :) Do you want a waterfall? How big an area? How deep? Have you checked with your municipality?
