This was our first pond, we installed a few weeks ago but the customer never filled it. We were back today installing a few caps on some pillars and it still wassnt filled but there is a bunch of water under the liner, enough that some rocks are floating. I dont know what happened.... can anyone help?
Thanks

Wow. Can I ask you why in the world you didn't fill the pond? We always fill ours to get the liner to settle before we put any stones around the top and are constantly adding stones on the inside as the water is filling. Plus, how do you know that you don't have any leaks or the pump performs as it should?
It shouldn't be the clients responsibility to fill it and test it.
There is such a thing as a pressure relief valve made by aquascapes. It's a bulkhead assembly with a one way gate valve that releases water one-way (from underneath the liner to outside the liner). I don't know much about it though... google it first if you're going to think bout using it.

water is surface water from the rain we've been getting. Probably off the patio, and going to the lowest spot. Always fill the pond up yourself, if the customer has low pressure or city water, or low aquifer then get a pump truck in. Like Fine edge said, you need to know if it leaks or the pump is bad, etc.

As far as what to do- lift some rocks and peel the liner back a bit. Drop a sump pump type pump into it and pump the water out. Then readjust everything and fill the pond with water. Hopefully your base was able to keep it's form...

Pump it out like stated above and rock her in and fill it up so you can see if you have a low edge or other unforeseen problems. When it is filled you won't see any hydro pressure anymore. I had this problem when I was building my pond this spring. Tuck your edges into the ground as much as possible to help water from running under your liner.

We wanted to fill it, but the customer (a big DIYer) wanted to install the pump and fill it herself. All we did was install the liner and bring rock to the job. She wanted to place rocks, install pump, and fill... So this really may be more of a problem for the customer since we were only there to install the liner and bring rocks. Thanks for the help.

Yea, that could end up being a big headache since she'll probably have some issues and expect you to go over and help her for nothing. I usually charge my clients a little more if they want to break up the project and do parts of it themselves.
I would charge her to remove the water from under the liner.

Well, that looks a bit safer to walk on...although the first may have been a good door-to-door salesman deterent
Nice job, hope the pond situation resolves itself nicely as well :snorkel:

Walk way looks nice. You got yourself into a little mess with the pond. Hopefully all works out.
