View Full Version : Is Skimmer Necessary?

I have been asked to construct an indoor coi pond exihibit for an upcoming fair in our town. We build several ponds a year, but this is my first indoors. The pond will be 16' by 14' with 12" water depth. The skimmer box is becoming problematic, and I am wondering if I need one. The exhibit will last for 10 days, and I can hand-skim the surface for any floating debris if necessary. Any opinions?

Thanks.

I wouldn't see a problem eliminating the skimmer box just for a 10 day exhibit. Most of the times, a skimmer box will house the pump but if you can keep the pump out of the main view, you should be fine.
You are planning on using a pump to recirculate the water, I assume.

Thanks. Yes, we will use a pump for a waterfall and recirculation via a biofalls box. We can hide the pump easier without the large skimmer box.

Thanks again...
