There was a post earlier today or yesterday by a brand new member with the username bslhuuxui (I'm not linking to the profile because no good can come from that), who claimed almost immediately after registering that GTX was hacked and allowing usernames and passwords to be seen at some other website.

Um, I don't think so.

For those that saw the post and are worried, know this: not even I can see your password. And I have access to every front end and back end part of this site. Every password is encrypted and takes the form of about 30 characters of gobbledygook that can only be decrypted by this site.

And, know this: the user account, the profile that was created, was created in the form that literally thousands of spammer accounts we've seen at GTX that have been deleted over the years.

So what I presume this is is an attempt to get you, by way of fear, to visit this other site that is based the Cocos Islands, an Australian territory, and see if you're one of the people whose username and password appear. Most likely that site, upon visiting, would try to install some sort of virus that would do exactly the thing this "member" is warning about.

So rest assured that your information is safe, and if future posts like this happen, please DO NOT visit the site that's linked in the post - just report the post so we can take care of it.

Thanks,

Jeff

I can't even begin to understand a fraction of what goes on behind the scenes. But I do know that I am extremely grateful for this site and all you do Jeff.

Between your own landscaping biz, all the work you do on this site, your side ipod hobby, and from what I understand a handful of other bloggy stuff you do, you truly are a renaissance man.

I can't comment firsthand on the other stuff, but I know I've really come to rely on this site for quality advice and feedback I trust. Just an example, with the recent screw-up I posted on here, and all the great feedback I received from many of you, I'm not sure I would have arrived at the same outcome w/o this site.

W/o getting too gushy, which I may have already done, a big thanks, Jeff!!!

I did see that post you speak of and paid it no mind. I have not been on this forum long and don't post regularly, Spent the first few months getting the feel of the people on here. Now I am comfortable with helping when I can and mention this forum to other trades people.

Thanks for putting together this site.

I wish scumbags that create viruses could channel their creativity into productive things. Imagine what they could do!

I was thinking something like picking trash from the side of the road or helping old ladys across the street

Oh, I was hoping for a technology that finds misplaced objects and paperwork. That would be useful.
